Cork people are very friendly so it is not surprising that the Cork Jazz Festival has acquired the reputation of Europe’s friendliest Jazz Festival.
Every year for the last 30 years Cork has hosted its world famous annual Jazz festival. Held late October, Cork Jazz Festival marks the end of summer with some great blues music.
As Ireland's biggest jazz event, the festival attracts hundreds of musicians from more than 25 countries and over forty thousand Jazz fans to Cork each year.
Over the years, the festival has been honoured by many of the great Jazz musicians- including Cleo Laine, Oscar Peterson, John Mc Laughlin, Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton, Art Blakey, Ella Fitzgerald, Gerry Mulligan, Buddy Rich, Mel Torme, Dave Brubeck, Benny Carter, Joe Zawinul and many more.
The status of the Cork Jazz Festival as of the top three Jazz festivals in the world is confirmed by the talent above. Over 1,000 musicians play bebop, swing, freeform, dixieland and traditional jazz in concerts, clubs, hotels and pubs around the city.
The Cork Jazz Festival is Ireland's biggest and most prestigious jazz event and an important event on Ireland's cultural calendar.
