Saint Patrick's Day Parades & Events in Omagh



Omagh St Patrick's Day Parade & Festival 2008
Monday, 17 March 13.30 -17.30 pm

The highlight of the festival will be the open air music concert and colourful and creative St Patrick's Day Parade which will have Omagh town centre buzzing with excitement from 1pm until 4pm on Monday 17th March.
The concert will include a mixture of traditional and contemporary Irish and Scottish music for everyone to enjoy. Featuring performances by Omagh Youth Community Choir, Comhltas/Dun Uladh and St Eugenes Band, the concert will also include top Irish band 'More Power to Your Elbow' which is back by popular demand. Also included in the line up is the mighty 'Canterach' all the way from Scotland, with a mixture of the great Scots and contemporary song in what promises to be a lively unforgettable performance.
A breath taking display of creative talent will be on show as the St Patrick's Day Parade will make its way throughout Omagh town centre. Local schools, community groups, businesses, sporting organisations and bands from all sections of the community within Tyrone will create an exciting multi-cultural carnival atmosphere. Also weaving its way throughout the town will be a spectacular St Patrick's puppet show.
The St Patrick's Day buzz will also be felt around the Strule Arts Centre, with a special Craft Fair which will take place between 1pm and 5pm. this has been organised in association with Tyrone Donegal Partnership and combines a unique selection of contemporary and traditional craft products that will undoubtedly offer a unique shopping opportunity.
Other events in the Festival inlcude a celebration of Irish Film at Strule Arts Centre in association with ScreenTwelve. Screenings include 'Mickeybo & Me' on Tuesday 11 March and 'The Quiet Man' on Thursday 13th March commencing at 8pm in Strule Arts Centre (free admission), while on Wednesday 12th March a cultural talk on themes associated with St Patrick in Strule Arts Centre at 8pm will provide a further understanding into why St Patrick's Day is celebrated across the globe.
Throughout the St Patrick's Day Festival the Strule Arts Centre will host an exhibition of posters celebrating the Life of St Patrick. These have been created by school children froma the Omagh District and wider area. The exhibition will be opened on Monday 10th March by the Chairman of Omagh District Council and will continue until Saturday 22 March 2008.
