Father Francis O'Duignan developed the idea of having St Patrick's Day cards postmarked in St Patrick, Missouri on March 17 in 1936 and designed the shamrock cachet the same year. The tradition continues today....

Each year the Kansas City St. Patrick's Day Parade has a different theme. The theme may reflect our Irish heritage, our Kansas City heritage or may even build upon current events. In the fall before the next year's parade, the Parade Committee begins throwing around many different ideas for the upcoming parade's theme. After several weeks of difficult deliberations, white smoke appears from the roof of Kelly's in Westport signifying that the theme has been chosen. Not really, but...you get the idea.

Rolla St. Patrick's Day Parade & Celebration 2009

The St. Pat's Parade is the main event of the Celebration, drawing thousands of people to Rolla each year. In fact, Rolla's St. Pat's parade was the third largest in Missouri in 1995. The parade is exciting for all, young and old alike. It is held Saturday morning and is the perfect way to start off the last day of the festivities.

Tuesday, March 17. The big annual Irish event kicks off at 12:30 p.m.
