Oregon National Historic Trail - Wyoming
In 1843, a wagon train crossed the Rocky Mountains for the first time. Their epic journey was named the "Great Migration" It started in Independence in Missouri & ended at the Pacific .
Pony Express National Historic Trail traverses Wyoming. Not widely known is that the 1,800 miles from St. Joseph Missouri to Sacramento California was accomplished in just ten days! Before the telegraph the Pony Express was the only fast way for both personal & business communications to be delivered across the continent. It operated for only 18 months between April 1860 and October 1861 but the advent of the telegraph heralded its demise. There are 120 Pony Express historic sites .
